For overseas warehouse operators, the purchase price of an unmanned forklift is usually one of the first numbers requested from a Chinese manufacturer. However, the vehicle price shown in an initial quotation is rarely the complete project cost.

A realistic procurement budget may include the AGV itself, battery, charger, fleet-management software, WMS integration, spare parts, packaging, ocean freight, customs-related charges, local transportation, commissioning and training.
An unmanned forklift is not a single standardized product. The price depends on the vehicle architecture and the warehouse application.
Payload capacity
Lift height
Fork dimensions
Counterbalance or reach configuration
Narrow-aisle requirements
Navigation technology
Battery capacity and charging method
Safety sensors
Fleet-management software
WMS/ERP integration
Custom mechanical requirements
Environmental protection requirements
A basic pallet-moving AGV and a high-lift VNA autonomous forklift should therefore not be compared using only the vehicle quantity and unit price.
Ask the supplier to separate the quotation into clearly identifiable items.
| Cost Item | What to Check |
|---|---|
| AGV vehicle | Exact model and configuration |
| Battery | Capacity, chemistry and quantity |
| Charger | Charging method and quantity |
| Fleet software | License and deployment model |
| Integration | WMS/ERP/API/PLC scope |
| Commissioning | Remote or on-site engineering |
| Spare parts | Initial spare-parts package |
Suppose one supplier offers a low vehicle price but excludes WMS integration, charging equipment, commissioning and spare parts. Another supplier may provide a higher vehicle quotation but include these services.
Comparing only the first number can therefore produce a misleading result.
The buyer should compare the complete scope required to make the warehouse operational.
For a serious project, ask for both.
The unit price helps compare the equipment itself. The complete project price reveals the actual investment required for the warehouse.
For example, a 10-unit project may require different software, charging and integration resources than a one-unit proof of concept.

Once these items are standardized, the buyer can make a meaningful comparison between Chinese suppliers and alternative automation solutions.
