Decoding Autonomy: Understanding the Different Types of Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV)
Not all AGVs are created equal. Choosing between the various types of automated guided vehicle is the first step in warehouse design.

1. The Automated Forklift (VNA and Reach)
Among the most common types of automated guided vehicle, the automated forklift handles the heavy lifting. These units use Laser SLAM to navigate narrow aisles, placing pallets at heights of up to 12 meters with 5mm precision.
2. Towing/Tugger AGVs
These types of automated guided vehicle act like a "train" for your facility. They can pull multiple carts at once, making them ideal for moving raw materials from the receiving dock to the production line over long distances.
3. Unit Load Carriers
Designed for speed and specific payloads, these types of automated guided vehicle carry a single pallet or container on their "back." They are often used in high-speed sorting environments where throughput is the primary KPI.
